Tanana Valley Sandhill Crane Festival
August 23, 2024 – August 25, 2024
Celebrate the fall migration as thousands of Sandhill Cranes begin their journey south for the winter on August 23–25, 2024. The festival will feature renowned speakers, artists, and guides. Activities and workshops are offered for all ages, which include guided walks, birdwatching, photography, falconry, crane calling, and many other related activities with ample opportunities for observing cranes and other fall migrants. All events are FREE unless otherwise noted.
The festival is sponsored by the Friends of Creamer’s Field in cooperation with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the Alaska Songbird Institute, and the Arctic Audubon Society.
Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge comprises approximately 2,200 acres of fields, woods, and wetlands in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. The front field area and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Buildings are located on the northern edge of the City of Fairbanks. Friends of Creamer’s Field works collaboratively with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game (ADFG) and other community partners to deliver education programs at Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge. We operate out of the Farmhouse Visitor Center, the original Creamer family farmhouse (circa 1908), which features interpretive exhibits on migratory birds and the historic dairy complex.
